“World Cup Volunteers 2017” is a Large Scale EVS project funded by the Erasmus + program that took place during the “Mondiali Antirazzisti 2017” in Castelfranco Emilia, Italy from 28th of June to 13th of July 2017. The project is coordinated by YouNet in collaboration with 5 partners organizations from Spain, Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, and Latvia.
Mondiali Antirazzisti is a non-competitive sports championship created in 1997 to battle against racism and gender discrimination. It has experienced a great welcoming since its inception. In 2015 the number exceeded to over 8,000 people and more than 200 volunteers from nearly all European countries.
The project promotes the cooperation and equality values through the sport by giving to volunteers an incomparable experience where participants can promote respect and tolerance for multiculturalism. Also, they became more aware about intercultural issues and the importance of integration of sport in their daily basis as an encouragement of a healthy life style. In addition, the were able to gain new skills required in the labour market such as team work, autonomy, sense of initiative and self-confidence. As well, the project allowed to participants to develop a proactive attitude towards the EU projects. They coul spread their experience and motivate others to join European mobility projects.
The methodology used in the project included non-formal learning strategies based primarily in learning by doing modality. The users had an active participation in the activities and were the protagonists of the learning activities. The methodology included games, role playing and peer to peer learning. All the activities had been created on cooperation approach and foresaw active engagement of volunteers in each of the daily activities.
Participants helped throughout the organization of the festival (logistical and practical aspects: cleaning, cooking, placement of spaces) and had the opportunity to participate in different activities:
-Preparation and integration upon arrival
-Intensive course of Italian
– Event management workshop
-Workshop of social networks and web pages
-Diffusion workshop
-Conferences about volunteering
